From our marina, a short cruise takes you north to Phang Nga National Park. This
bay is spectacular, with limestone pinnacles rising from the sea, and many beautiful
anchorages to explore. One hourʼs cruising will take you to the islands of Koh
Hong and Koh Panak, where there are picturesque anchorages for lunch, and
caves to explore in the kayaks.
Alternative you can cruise south to the Kai Islands, wonderful for snorkelling and
swimming, or relax with a cold beer in the jacuzzi and admire the scenery. From
here cruise to a beautiful anchorage next to a deserted white sand beach for your
lunch, followed by a sunset cruise back to the marina.
Two or three day charters on the East Coast
There are many different options, but here are some ideas
Start your cruises at the Ao Po Marina, and cruise north to Ko Hong
Phang Nga and spend your first night in these spectacular surroundings,
exploring the caves and hidden lagoons by kayak or dinghy. Children and
adults alike will love these adventures.
The next day you could cruise to Ko Hong Krabi with it's beautiful
beaches and lagoons, clear waters, and picturesque rock formations.
Anchor overnight next to one of the beaches, and the next morning take
a memorable scenic cruise to Ko Naka, which has a long stretch of white
sandy beach, with a characteristic little Thai beach bar - a very basic
Caribbean type beach shack, where you can sample a fresh tropical fruit
juice or cold beer, sitting with your toes in the sand, and enjoy the view of
the yacht at anchor nearby.
There are many places in the Koh Hong Archipelago that have beautiful anchorages, and are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. In contrast to Phang Nga Bay, the waters here are clear enough for snorkelling and many of these islands have coral reefs rich in coral and all kinds of marine wildlife. On the island of Koh Pak Bia there is an unusual spit of white sand, which is a superb area for swimming, snorkelling, and kayaking ashore to explore this beautiful island.
The Similan Islands
The Similans are a group of islands belonging to
Thailand National Parks, and it is listed as one of
the 10 top dive spots in the world,. The water is
incredibly clear, the marine life is truly unbelievable,
and the beaches are exquisite fine white sand. You
can dive - we have four sets of dive gear on board
and can hire more up there. You can snorkel - we
have all the gear on board. You can find your own
private beautiful beach, see our photos in the
gallery.
We recommend this cruise from December through
to March. You would board Shangani on the East
coast, and cruise to the west coast of Phuket, stop
off for a swim and dinner on board, or ashore at one
of the quaint little restaurants on the beaches Then
whilst you sleep, the crew will weigh anchor, and
you will wake up in these incredible surroundings.
Look for those turtles, see our gallery!
The Captain will take you to a different anchorage
each night and then when its time to come home
again, you will enjoy your dinner under the stars,
then retire to the comfort of your cabin, and wake
up back in Phuket.
This is a cruise we recommend highly, but you will need at least six days. It is possible to go for less, but in this case there would be a fuel surcharge.
At the end of the day, the important thing is for you to discuss with the Captain, your personal preferences for your cruise. He has extensive knowledge of the area and many ideas, and you can work out an itinerary between you.
Phi Phi Island CruiseA full dayʼs cruise from Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands are world renowned for their spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches, and superb diving and snorkelling. Phi Phi Le is famous as the setting for the movie “The Beach”. Good to visit in the early morning, as it gets crowded during the day. Shanganiʼs Captain knows of many lovely anchorages in this area.
One of his favourites is Monkey Beach in the north-west of Phi Phi Don. Ask him to show you a special “swim through”, where one of our crew will accompany you through a channel in the rock formations. After a short jungle walk you will appear on a magnificent beach on the other side of the island, where Shangani will be waiting for you.
From the Phi Phi islands, you can travel north to the famous Chicken Island, Krabi Railey Beach, and Ko Hong
Krabi, all of which have wonderful snorkelling and magnificent white sand beaches, with crystal clear water. The
small town of Krabi has beautiful beaches nestled among the high limestone cliffs. The province of Krabi
combines the coral fringed islands of the Andaman Sea, with the spectacular cliffs of Phang Nga Bay.
Some options for a week's cruise, on the East coast.
Koh Lanta Cruise
Situated south-east of the Phi Phi Islands is Koh Lanta, where you can go ashore and rent small motorbikes to explore the island. The main island is 30 kilometres long, and has wonderful white sandy beaches, and is suitable for diving and snorkelling. You would need a minimum of five days for this cruise, so you could travel first to Phi Phi islands and then on to Koh Lanta, spending a couple of days there before cruising back to Phuket.
Langkawi Cruise
We are sometimes asked for a cruise drifting down through the islands to Langkawi in Malaysia, where guests can disembark and fly home. On the way you could visit the idyllic Tarutao and Adang islands, totally unspoiled and deserted. This cruise takes around a week. There will be a half day charter rate to ferry the boat back to phuket. You will have seen the television advertising for “Malaysia, Truly Asia”. Langkawi is a beautiful and fascinating place with a rich cultural heritage, and well worth a visit. See www.langkawi-info.com for more information.
Phuket West Coast Beaches
Cruising on the west coast is also an option during the high season only, as between May and October the sea is too rough on this side of the island. There are some beautiful spots to anchor overnight, and the Captain has many ideas of where to go. There are lovely deserted beaches, as well as beaches with lots of sport activities such as as jet-skis and paragliding. Beaches in the Surin area have 5 star hotels, and mega-yachts, and beautiful waterside villas, as well as
